Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson is the daughter of British lawyers Jacqueline Luesby (born in Paris) and Chris Watson (born in Paris). As a young girl, she moved from London to Oxfordshire where she studied at The Dragon School. When she was six years old, Emma realized that she wanted to be an actor and for several years, she was a student at the Oxford branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts a part-time theatre school where she studied performing and singing. Through a school play as well as the stage of a Stagecoach production, Emma was the lead at the age 10, and acted. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2000), the movie adaptation from J.K. Rowlings bestselling novel was first cast for the first time in 1999. Emma was identified by casting agents through Emma's Oxford theatre instructor. David Heyman told Emma along with Rupert Grint, Daniel Radcliffe that they had all been through eight consecutive auditions. Emma's debut film came with the release of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2002). It was the highest-grossing film of 2001 it set new records in its first day opening and the opening weekend's earnings. The film was praised by critics, as were the performances of its three young starlets. The Daily Telegraph praised Emma for her outstanding performance.
